Getting started
Updated October 16, 2026
From installation to handing over your first task and checking the results. Buttons and menus are named as they appear in the app.
Install and launch
Download the installer from the download page. BigbangOffice runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 12 or later and on Windows 10/11 (x64).
- Mac: open the DMG, move the app to Applications, then launch it.
- Windows: run the installer and follow it. The Windows build is a temporary version without code signing yet, so Windows may show a security warning.
Connect an AI model
On first launch a five-step setup opens, starting with “Connect an AI model first.” “Next” stays off until you register a model; “Set up later” skips the step.
Choose “New connection,” pick the model provider and connection method, then choose “Register connection.” Pick models with “+ Model”; the first one you add becomes the primary model.
- Model providers: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, xAI (Grok), Ollama and OpenAI-compatible servers
- Connection methods: API key (every provider; optional for Ollama), account sign-in (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI), or no authentication (OpenAI-compatible servers)
- Ollama models run on your PC.
- Later, change this in Settings → AI & connections → AI models. On the same page, save a Jev API key under “Fast decision model” and check the connection to turn on Jev, which handles classification and choices quickly.
Create your first AI company
Setup steps 2 to 5 create your first AI company. “Create company” finishes the setup.
- Company name and company folder: pick the folder where work files are kept. If it already has files, BigbangOffice can analyze them and carry on.
- First project name and project goal are required; constraints and expected deliverables are optional.
- Chief of Staff: the AI that takes your work in chat. Set its name, role and primary model.
- Execution confirmation policy: “Recommended — confirm high-risk actions only” asks a person before high-risk actions only; “Run everything automatically (caution)” never asks.
Set up your organization
After the company is created, the organization draft opens. Build it with “+ Add department” or choose “Generate automatically,” then choose “Confirm departments and generate staff” and “Start with this organization.”
Each AI teammate can use a different model. By default the Chief of Staff picks one to suit the role; later, open a teammate on the Organization chart to change it.
Hand over your first task
There are two ways to hand over work.
- Chief of Staff chat: open Chat on the left icon bar and write what you want done.
- New task: on the Dashboard or Task progress, choose “New task,” fill in the task title, description, assignee and collaboration scope, then choose “Create task.”
BigbangOffice uses a matching workflow if there is one, or drafts a new one, and prepares the run. Execution preparation on the Dashboard shows how far it has come; when your confirmation policy needs approval, a “Workflow awaiting approval” card appears in chat.
Refine the workflow
Open a workflow from Workflows on the left icon bar to edit it, or draw one from scratch with “New workflow.”
- Add steps: use + on a connecting line to add Run, Review, User approval, Ask a person or Department meeting steps, branch on a condition, or run steps in parallel.
- Set up a step: select it to change the step name, task, owner (a department or a teammate) and result format. On a review step, choose where rework starts again.
- Save and apply: after “Save,” choose “Apply to runs”; runs use the applied version.
- Run manually: on the Run history tab, use “Run manually” to try it right away.
Link and schedule workflows
Once linked, the workflows you designed run one after another without you starting each one.
- Start after another workflow: select the Start or End card in the editor to start a workflow when another one starts, finishes or fails. Links connect versions applied to runs.
- Scheduled runs: in Home → Scheduled runs → “New scheduled run,” pick workflows and a run schedule (once, hourly, daily, weekly or cron). You also choose what happens to runs missed while the app was closed.
Check progress and results
How far the work has come, and what needs you, is on the Home menu.
- Dashboard: the Workflows map shows what is running, waiting for approval or paused, and Work screens show what the AI is doing right now.
- Needs attention: everything that needs a person, grouped into Blocked, Decide, Deliverables and Connections and sorted by urgency. Approve, request changes or reject approval cards here.
- Risky external actions wait until you choose “Go ahead.” You can also choose “Ask for another way” or “Stop.”
- Deliverables: open the files of finished tasks from Recently completed on the Dashboard, or find them in the Work folder in the Home sidebar.
See the work knowledge that builds up
Web evidence, meeting decisions, outputs and fixed errors build up in the knowledge wiki and graph, linked to each other and to their sources. When an AI teammate starts a task, it looks up the related knowledge first.
Explore the links in Home → Knowledge graph, and read the documents under Knowledge wiki in the Home sidebar.
Keep working while your PC is on
- Closing the window keeps the app working in the tray (the menu bar on Mac). Click the tray icon or “Open BigbangOffice” to bring the window back, and choose “Quit” in the tray menu to stop it.
- On Windows, turn on Settings → General → “Launch at Windows startup” to start the app when you sign in.
- Work stops while your PC is off or the app is closed. For scheduled runs, you can decide in advance how missed runs are handled.
